FORMER DIRECTOR RON SCHILLING WINS CITIZEN OF THE YEAR!
Dec. 8, 2005 - Former Tourism Bureau interim director, Ron Schilling, was named Lincoln Courier Citizen of the Year at ceremonies held in early December at the Maple Club in Lincoln. Schilling was greeted with the announcement by Lincoln Mayor Beth Davis, and joins a distinguished club of individuals who have been honored with the award over the past 50+ years in Lincoln. Schilling served as interim director of the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County over the summer of 2005 until the position was filled by current director Geoff Ladd. During his tenure, Mr. Schilling brought financial stability and organization to the Bureau, and made the transition a smooth one for the incoming director. Schilling also recently retired as president of Lincoln College and currently serves on the board of the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Partnership. In the later role, he was instrumental in the negotiations to bring the new Sysco Foods facility to the city of Lincoln. Bureau director Geoff Ladd stated that Schilling was an enormous help to him as he came on board, and continues to serve the Bureau as a volunteer, to which Ladd is very grateful.
