Church Point offers a cemetery tour to learn about the town’s rich history and tell spooky stories about the early residents
ACADIA PARISH, La (KLFY) – Church Point offers a cemetery tour to learn about the city’s rich history and tell spooky stories about the early residents.
Church Point historian Gene Thibodeaux explains what to expect.
âWe have scheduled four tours this year. The Tuesday night tours are frightening where we talk about tragedies. Daytime tours are Wednesday at 5 a.m. and we walk through the history of Church Point. The founding of it and a lot of people who have been buried here, âThibodeaux said.
Tourist guide Thibodeaux says the cemetery is fifty years old and the graves at the front are fairly recent.
“We’re going for a little walk,” added Thibodeaux.
âUsually we got away with it; it’s nighttime so everyone must have a flashlight. It is an old cemetery and a very irregular place so there is a lot of tripping hazard. But people rather like it, âsaid Thibodeaux.
During the 1.5-hour tour, Thibodeaux shares some stories of people buried in the cemetery.
âIn 1957, on Easter morning, a man showed up at his strange wife’s house, dressed in a suit and carrying a shotgun. Police were called and two policemen came over to one of the Church Point police chiefs. What happened next in the house, nobody knows exactly because everyone is dead, âexplained Thibodeaux.
Residents can bring non-perishable items right here to Town Hall and enter for free.
